Dominic Villeneuve

Dominic Villeneuve is a policy scientist particularly interested in public transport and mobility policies and their effects on society, individuals and the territory. His research also focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable mobility and transport governance. He is an associate professor of transportation and mobility at the École supérieure d’aménagement du territoire et de développement régional (ÉSAD) at Université Laval. Dominic is deputy director of the Center for Research in Planning and Development (CRAD), member of the executive board of the Réseau ville région monde (VRM) and member of the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur les réseaux d’entreprises, la logistique et le transport (CIRRELT).

Previously, Dominic was postdoc coordinator of the doctoral research group mobil.LAB of the Research Chair on Urban Structure and Transport Planning at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He was also a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Urban Sociology (LaSUR) of the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he obtained his doctorate in architecture and city sciences under the supervision of Professor Vincent Kaufmann. His thesis was a comparison of car dependency and social exclusion related to mobility in the regions of Quebec (Canada) and Strasbourg (France). He holds a master’s degree in public administration and a specialized dual-track bachelor of social sciences in public administration and political science from the University of Ottawa.

With an atypical academic background, Dominic Villeneuve preceded his university career with a twelve-year professional career as a computer scientist at Microsoft where he worked as program director for the launch of Hotmail in French.
