{"id":4651,"date":"2012-08-30T16:20:23","date_gmt":"2012-08-30T20:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.esad.ulaval.ca\/?page_id=4651"},"modified":"2014-01-15T14:16:43","modified_gmt":"2014-01-15T18:16:43","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/esad.faaad.ulaval.ca\/en\/research","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Research<\/h1>\n<p>\u00c9SAD research activities are essentially carried out at the <em><a class=\"externe\" href=\"http:\/\/crad.ulaval.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Centre de recherche en am\u00e9nagement et d\u00e9veloppement<\/a><\/em> (CRAD, Centre for Planning and Development).\u00a0 Themes investigated include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Urban Dynamics and Transportation: addressing the various transformations of the city, including urban sprawl, aging post-war suburbs, sustainable transport, accessibility to services, urban economics and externalities, built heritage conservation, territorial identity and urban conflicts.<\/li>\n<li>Regional Vitality: investigating issues of economic competitiveness and innovation in a global context, as well as an understanding of cultural landscapes in regional areas such as Gasp\u00e9sie and the First Nation territories in the C\u00f4te-Nord.<\/li>\n<li>Environmental Protection: concerning ecological integrity, invasive species, drinking water quality, the reduction of greenhouse gases relating to motorised forms of transport and its energy efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>Innovation in Planning Techniques: rethinking cooperative and participatory forms of decision-making and planning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Much of the research conducted at the CRAD is funded by provincial, national and international grant agencies and is widely published in books and peer-reviewed academic journals, in addition to gaining attention in the local and provincial news media.\u00a0 Collaboration occurs regularly between the CRAD and local public institutions and decision-makers.<\/p>\n<p>Research has an important role in both the internal teaching activities of \u00c9SAD, particularly at the doctoral level, but also for the Master\u2019s programs, as well as in maintaining the school\u2019s contribution to a larger, national and international science community.\u00a0 The activities of each research team contribute directly or indirectly to teaching, and help cultivate the areas of expertise offered within the graduate programs.\u00a0 The dual responsibility of many professors as researchers assures a transfer of knowledge between the laboratory and the teaching environment, making the classroom a place where the latest research is shared, tested and applied.\u00a0 Students, particularly those undertaking a research-oriented program, benefit intellectually from the various resources (both logistical and financial) that are offered by each team.<\/p>\n<p>Two research chairs and three research teams are actively involved in the activities at the CRAD.\u00a0 Several are also joint members of other research centres, including the Centre for Northern Studies, the Centre for Research in Geomatics, the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science and the Hydro-Quebec Institute for the Environment, Development and Society.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"border: 1px solid #C0C0C0;\" src=\"\/\/www.esad.ulaval.ca\/files\/esad\/Vignettes_Centres-de-recherche\/PatrimoineReligieuxBati.png\" alt=\"Canada Research Chair in Built Religious Heritage\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><a class=\"externe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crcprb.chaire.ulaval.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Canada Research Chair in Built Religious Heritage<\/strong><\/a><br \/>Dr. Tania Martin<\/p>\n<p>The Canada Research Chair in Built Religious Heritage investigates the material and social dimensions of a built environment previously belonging to, or influenced by, various religious communities.\u00a0 Through a study of the past and present, the Chair seeks to propose and reflect upon a possible future for our society&#8217;s built religious heritage.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a class=\"externe\" href=\"http:\/\/crepul.crad.ulaval.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"border: 1px solid #C0C0C0;\" src=\"\/\/www.esad.ulaval.ca\/files\/esad\/Vignettes_Centres-de-recherche\/CREPUL.png\" alt=\"Research Chir in Drinking Water\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Laval University Research Chair in Drinking Water<\/strong><\/a><br \/>Dr. Manuel J.
